The fact that a boy is an Eagle Scout has always carried with it a special significance, not only in Scouting but also as he enters higher education, business or industry, and community service. The award is a performance-based achievement whose standards have been well-maintained over the years. Not every boy who joins a Boy Scout troop earns the Eagle Scout rank; only about 5 percent of all Boy Scouts do so. This represents more than 2 million Boy Scouts who have earned the rank since 1912. Nevertheless, the goals of Scouting—citizenship training, character development, and personal fitness—remain important for all Scouts, whether or not they attain the Eagle Scout rank. Reaching the rank of Eagle Scout requires years of dedication and hard work. In addition to 21 required merit badges, each Scout must complete an extensive service project that he plans, organizes, leads, and manages. On average, each Scout conducts 167 service hours as part of that project. In 2008 alone, that translated to $16 million in service to communities across America.
Prior to this Eagle service project this trail had become overgrown and impassible. An Eagle Scout candidate from Troop 1 Bolton led a group of Scouts in the Summer of 2013 to refurbish the start of this trail and then created a new trail that transformed this into a loop train that comes back at Danforth Lane. Come an enjoy a hike on this new loop train that takes you around a typical New England woods with stone walls with a pond and creek going through the property.
