Geocache Description:

This cache overlooking Pioneer Park and its companions in the park are placed as my way of remembering three assets of the park that are now gone but were a part of my children's experiences growing up in Deerfield Beach. BYOP.

Looking east from GZ one would never guess that there was once a small basketball court where the outfield is. I would bring my son over the to the park and we would shoot hoops and practice dribbling and passing. After a while the neighbor twins started to join us. While my son would eventually choose roller hockey, the neighbor boys would flourish in basketball. I recall Felix, the taller of the two, gradually growing into his 6'5" frame and dunking left-handed and right-handed on whomever happened to be unfortunate enough to be in his path on this small court. Some intense games were played underneath the lights on humid summer nights. The park is far more docile now. The twins are in their thirties, my son through college. But it is wonderful to gaze eastward from here and catch just the most subtle peek of what once was.

About the cache: By far the easiest way to GZ is to park in the lot whose coordinates are listed in parking waypoint below. Wheelchair accessible and will be a quick find for most. Search, find, log!

An image from 2010 shows right field of the baseball field where the court once was.
