Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the listed coordinates; you must first solve a game puzzle in order to determine the actual location!

We’ve loved solving Fish Soup’s board game-inspired series of caches, so we decided to make one of our own based on one of our favorite family games, Ticket to Ride! If you’re familiar with the game, you can break out your board and skip right down to the puzzle...

In a nutshell, the object of the game is to score the highest number of points by claiming train routes between cities. You may claim a route on the board by playing a set of Train Car cards that match the color and length of the route. For example, a 3-car Blue route from New York to Montreal must be claimed using a set of 3 blue-colored Passenger Car cards. Some routes – those that are Gray colored – can be claimed using a set of cards of any one color. On routes with two colors of track available, you must choose which color you are going to use. You cannot claim both routes on double routes between two cities; for example, if you reach Seattle with 2 cards left, you can't go to Portland (or Vancouver) and back for 2 more points. See related link for more info.

The puzzle is a simplified version of the game; you’ll start with a set number of cards, and add up the points from making routes between various cities. For example, if you look at the map and scoring chart below, you can see that one could go from Denver to Chicago with 4 purple cards and 4 blue cards. Each of those routes is worth 7 points, for a total of 14 points.

Now for the puzzle...

You have the following cards in your hand: 5 white cars, 5 red cars, 5 yellow cars, 5 green cars, and 5 engines (wild cards, can be used as any color)

Given these cards, determine the MAXIMUM number of points you could score on a continuous route going from each city to Seattle:

Chicago to Seattle = AB
How many cards are left over? = C
How many cities BETWEEN Chicago and Seattle do you pass through on your route? = D

Atlanta to Seattle = EF
How many cards are left over? = G
How many cities BETWEEN Atlanta and Seattle do you pass through on your route? = H

El Paso to Seattle = JK
How many cards are left over? = L
How many cities BETWEEN El Paso and Seattle do you pass through on your route? = M

Final is at N 47° 38.(A+L)(H-E)(C+K) W 122° 23.(K-E)(J+G)(F-H)

Congratulations to majorbonnet for the FTF!
