Volcano Cam:
August 8 - 2002 I was at this spot.
It was cold and windy and very silent, but it was one of the
most beautiful moments in my life.
At the time a was there the sun was setting in the west and to
the south-west there was that huge vulcano Mt. Saint Helens. I
could see the lava dome in the center and steam plumes coming out
of it, like something had disturbed the vulcano in its sleep.
Eagles were circling in the blue sky and on the parking place there
were some squirrels looking for some food.
In spirit lake there were still logs floating, thousands of
these blown by the wind to the north-east shore of this lake. Trees
were still flattened by the explosion of the vulcano more than
twenty years ago, all pointing away from the lavadome.
I felt so tiny at that moment, the panorama was so
overwhelming.
This spot is beautiful, very quite and not often visited, so I
decided to make a virtual cache out of it. I real cache would have
been impossible, because it is not allowed to hide a box in a
national park, for understandable reasons.
Your task is making and uploading some pictures of the
vulcano as proof that you have been there. Photograph also your GPS
with the coordinates and upload this picture.
Your main task is having a wonderful time!
Plan your trip carefully, the park is not open all year long
and you need a Monument Pass or Northwest Forest Pass!
