Geocache Description:

CLIFFTOP has been kind enough to allow some geocaches to be placed on properties they manage.  Here is an opportunity to give back.

Often cachers think of "Cache In, Trash Out" events as a time to pick up litter.  However "examples of CITO-appropriate activities [also] include tree-planting, trail-building, removing invasive species" according to the Guidelines.

CLIFFTOP (Conserving Lands In Farm, Forest, Talus Or Prairie) has asked for help in removing the invasive bush honeysuckle from the White Rock Nature Preserve.  (Click here for more information on the plant.)  Most of the work will be off-trail in the woods.

  • Time?  Meet at the coords (parking lot) at 9 am and plan to work until about 2 or 3 pm, but if you need to leave sooner, that is alright too.
  • What to bring?  Drinking water, snacks, lunch for yourself.  CLIFFTOP will provide extra drinking water.
  • What to wear?  Weather appropriate clothing, but because of the nature of the work, pants, long-sleeved shirts, work gloves, sturdy boots or hiking shoes, probably a hat.  Also, it is tick season, so use "bug dope" (CLIFFTOP will have an extra supply of that for attendees who need it.)
  • What not to bring?  CLIFFTOP has tools (loppers, grubbers, etc), so you don't have to worry about bringing your own from home.
  • Why should I sign up and not just show up?  So that we have a good idea of how many will be there.  CLIFFTOP plans on putting people into teams and assigning work areas.  This will be easier if they can do it ahead of time.  Also they can arrange for additional Gators to move people and gear if they know the numbers.
  • What if it rains?  Hard?  Sunday April 27th is the bad-weather back up date.
  • What if this page doesn't answer all the questions?  Contact Monk-E Arms.

Hopefully we can make a real dent in the bad bush honeysuckle infestation at the White Rock Nature Preserve.
