Prvočísla sú tie celé čísla väčšie ako 1, ktoré sú bezo zvyšku deliteľné len sebou samým a číslom 1. Čísla 2 a 3 sú prvočísla, ale 4 nie je prvočíslo, lebo je deliteľné číslom 2. Z rovnakého dôvodu nemôže byť prvočíslom žiadne párne číslo väčšie ako 2. Ale 5, 7, 11, 13, 17 sú prvočísla a už starogrécky matematik Euklides dokázal, že prvočísel je nekonečne veľa.
Sexy prvočísla (v anglickej wikipédii sexy primes) je žartovne utvorený matematický termín pre prvočísla, ktorých rozdiel je 6 (vedeli ste, že v latinčine sex znamená číslovku šesť?) Dvojice sexy prvočísel usporiadané podľa veľkosti sú teda
