Geocache Description:

Welcome to the first Geo-vehicle "Show & Shine".
Depending upon its success, or failure, this will hopefully become an annual event.

What?
The first Geo-vehicle "Show and Shine" Event Cache.

Where?
At Cardinia Reservior Park, specifically at the published co-ordinates.

When?
Sunday 22nd June, 2014, beginning at 9:30am, should finish around 4:00pm.

Who?
Absolutely anybody! You do not need to own or drive a vehicle to attend this event, but you will need a vehicle to enter any of the categories.

Why?
Why not?

Ok, So what is involved?
Well, that's pretty simple. There are a number different levels of involvement that you can choose from.

Attending.
Sure, you can turn up at any time (9:30am-4:00pm) and sign the log book.

Join a team.
Of course joining a team would make the whole experience a lot more fun. If you don't own a vehicle or you're a bit embarrassed of your ride, simply ask one of the other teams if they have a spare seat for you to tag along in!

Volunteer.
It won't be easy to run this event by myself, so if driving round the mountains is not your idea of fun, I will need at least one person to help me, and possibly someone to take some photos too.

Enter a vehicle for judging.
Oh, now we are getting serious!
There will be a number of categories that you can enter your vehicle in and don't feel you have to limit yourself to entering it into just one. Don't be shy either, none of us are professionals, it really is all for a bit of a laugh!

Hmmm, How many categories are there?
Good question, There are 5 categories all up. The first 4 will be judged by all those present between 10:00am and 11:00am on the day. The 5th and final category, "Best Geo-vehicle" will be decided by a rally around the hills. This will NOT be decided by speed, but will be given to the team/vehicle that gathers the most "points" during the rally.

So who judges each category?
Everyone who attends the event between 10:00am and 11:00am, with or without a vehicle, will be given a voting slip, on which they will be asked to vote for who they consider to be the best vehicle in each of the first 4 categories. You will not be allowed to vote for your own vehicle or your team's vehicle.
All vehicles that wish to be entered into any of the categories will required to be at the car-park at the published co-ordinates by 10:00am for the judging and for a group photo.

So what are the categories?
I am so glad you asked!

(1) People's Choice Geo-vehicle of the Year
Open to all vehicles. Will be judged by popular vote on the day.
It's the crowd favorite. It may be the monster truck that can take a cacher where they want to go. It may be a compact buzz box that makes park and grabs a cinch. It could be an old favorite, or the latest in European luxury. Who knows?

(2) Best Kitted-Out Geo-vehicle of the Year
Open to all vehicles. Will be judged by popular vote on the day.
Wow, now that car has a lot of gear! I wonder what all the pretty buttons do?

(3) Shiniest Geo-vehicle of the Year
Open to all vehicles. Will be judged by popular vote on the day.
Shampooed, rinsed and buffed to within an inch of its life. The duco gleans, the interior shines, the windows sparkle and there is not a drop of grease to be seen in the engine bay!

(4) Most Feral Geo-vehicle of the Year
Open to all vehicles. Will be judged by popular vote on the day.
It's been up every pot-hole riddled track this side of the black stump. Lost count of how many dents and scratches the old girls has copped. She makes a few funny noises that no-one can work out where from. She coughs and spluts a bit and it's leaking oil too!

(5) Overall Geo-vehicle of the Year.
Open to all vehicles. Will be decided by a rally around the hills, this will NOT be decided by speed, but upon collecting "points" at various different waypoints.
Imagine the prestige, the fame and fortune of winning the Overall best Geo-vehicle of the Year! Also, the team competing in the winning vehicle will have the honour of logging this event as a joint FTF!

That sounds like HEAPS of fun, how do I enter my vehicle?
You can enter your vehicle into any of the first 4 categories on the day, all you need to do is turn up between when the event starts at 9:30am and when the judging starts, at 10:00am. Ask for an entry form, fill it out, stick it on your car, and you will be entered!

For logistical reasons though, participation in the rally to win the 5th category, "Overall best Geo-vehicle", has to be limited to 16 vehicles only. Whilst you may be able to enter your vehicle into this category on the day, if there are spots left, it is preferred that you register your intentions before the event by providing the required information on your "Will Attend" log, via a note on this page or by emailing myself (link).

The Car Rally sounds AWESOME can you tell me more?
Of course I can!

How do I enter my vehicle?
The best way to do this is to give your details when you log your "Will Attend" log. Failing that, include it on a note to this page, or email me the details (link). You may be able to enter your vehicle on the day, but only if there are spots left. Remember though that it is limited to only 16 vehicle/teams.

What details do you need?
The following details will need to be provided...
(a) A name for your vehicle
(b) The team members who will be in your vehicle
(c) The Year, Make, Model and Type of vehicle
(d) Your preferred start time (see the table of available start times)
(e) If you are willing to take extra people along and how many spare seats you will have.
(f) Optional, but preferred: A photo of your vehicle.

What time does it start?
It is preferred that all vehicles be at the published co-ordinates at 10:00am for a group photo. The briefing session for the rally will be at 10:45am for an 11:00am start. To avoid traffic congestion vehicles will begin with staggered start times over an hour (11:00am - 12:00pm).

What exactly will we be doing?
Now that is to be a pretty closely guarded secret. It will involve travelling around the hills to various different waypoints, gathering information and objects to gain "points". The circuit is a loop, so you will be returning to the published co-ordinates of the event at the finish. All waypoints will be drive-bys with plenty of room for parking. To be fair, full details will only be announced at 10:45am on the day of the event.

What will my vehicle need?
I would encourage you to load up your vehicle with every conceivable item that you could possibly ever think that may be required for a geocaching hunt. Not having the right equipment won't mean you can't finish, but it will mean you might miss out on valuable points!

What are the roads like?
To complete the rally will require going down dirt roads. Nothing that a low clearance 2WD car cannot handle with a reasonably skilled driver. There may be some slight corrugations and small to medium size pot holes. If it has been raining, there will be mud and puddles, so if you're precious about you're ride, you might want to stay away.

How long will it take?
The entire course should take around 4 hours to complete, which means the last vehicles should be returning around 4:00pm.

Is there anything else I might need?
You will definitely require a full tank of fuel, a digital camera, a writing implement and a smart-phone with fully charged batteries. It's probably a good idea to pack some lunch too. There are numerous other things that you may need to gain points, so just pack everything imaginable.

Are there any other rules?
There are heaps of other rules!!!!

(1) Each vehicle must have at least two team members.
(2) No vehicle should carry more passengers than it is licensed to carry
(3) The Driver of each vehicle has to comply with all Victorian driving laws and therefore can take no part in navigation of the rally (looking at GPS, reading maps, making decisions etc). He/she can only take instructions from passengers as to which direction to drive in.
(4) The Driver of each vehicle must be in full control of the vehicle at all times. The rally is NOT time based, all speeding laws must be followed, and obviously drive slower if the conditions require.
(5) Whilst every effort has been made to place the waypoints where there is plenty of off-street parking for multiple vehicles, waypoints must be passed if the road conditions or traffic does not allow safe stopping.
(6) The driver has complete responsibility for duration of the event for his/her passengers safety.
(7) Starting times will be staggered. Every 4 minutes between 11:00am and 12:00pm. To get your preferred starting time, let us know when you want to start when you send me all your other registration details. This is strictly on a "first come first serve" basis.
(8) All other rules will be outlined at the briefing session on the day of the event, at 10:45am.

Is that it then???
Almost, just some legal issues for you to consider....

As cache/event setter/organizer I cannot accept any responsibility for any problems encountered during the day, including motoring accidents, speeding etc.

Like all caches, it is entirely your choice to take part in the event. By setting out to this event, the driver is responsible for any third party action that may arise during the day. I as organizer am not responsible for any actions you take.

Wow, that was a lot of information!
