This cache was placed to celebrate NeiKat’s wedding at Glenfinnan House on the 23rd July 2011.
The cache was placed on our third anniversary.
Both the Groom and Bride (Neil + Katie, hence NeiKat) and several of the guests including the best man and his fiancee, are keen geocachers, so we thought it fitting to place a cache nearby.
As part of the wedding celebrations the happy couple had a number of pictures taken near the Glenfinnan Railway Viaduct which is famous for being one of the largest engineering undertakings built entirely of concrete. It has 21 arches each spanning 15m and has a maximum height of 30m.
The viaduct is also famous for appearing in three of the Harry Potter films including the Chamber of Secrets, in which a substantial sequence revolves around the Hogwarts Express crossing the viaduct. Its appearances in two subsequent Harry Potter films, The Prisoner of Azkaban and The Goblet of Fire, have cemented the association of the viaduct with the film series.
In the summer, a steam train operates between Fort William and Mallaig which crosses the viaduct in the morning at about 10:50 from (right to left) as you approach from the road.
This cache replaces NeiKat's wedding which was under a tree that came down during the storms earlier this year (we hope this has no bearing on our marriage!!!)
