The Coonville Creek valley was once home to dozens of early pioneer
families to St. Francois county. Residents raised livestock, cut
timber, and dug shallow surface mines in search of minerals-all to
scrape out a meager living off this rugged land. If you look
closely, you can still see the reminants of the old wagon road that
ran parallel to the creek. During Prohibition, the many spring
branches in the deep valleys of Coonville Creek became the perfect
location for moonshiners, hence the name "Mooner's Hollow". Enjoy
your walk along the crystal-clear Coonville Creek. The cache is
located inside of an ammo box.
NOTICE: Please be
respectful of the posted park hours. If you enter the park after
hours you are trespassing. If you are stopped you can be ticketed
or arrested and will put the future of geocaching in the parks in
jeopardy. |
