Green Mountain Boys’ State is a leadership laboratory for rising high school senior boys with leadership potential. The central focus of the program is Vermont town, county, and state government, and its organization, policies and procedures. Delegates are elected and appointed to offices within the Legislative, Executive, and Judicial Branches of government. They work on issues relating to Vermont.
The program was founded in 1938 and has been a credible and prestigious leadership camp since its founding. The american legion has been its sponsor since the start and can provide students with the funding to attend Boy’s state. When all the delegates arrive on the first day and get settled in the dorms they attend their town meeting to get acquainted. In Boy’s state there are three counties and two towns per county. During the week the delegates are there they will discuss Vermont issues and attend town meetings to hold mock meetings and discuss legitimate issues a town would have to deal with. On top of all this in Boy’s state delegates may take up county and higher level positions in Boy’s state.
As well at Boy’s state there are sports, the well renown Boy’s state band, and you can start small clubs on the side. For the delegates who prefer the judicial branch can be on the mock supreme court and do mock trials. So dive in and delegate your way to find the Boy’s state cache.
