Geocache Description:

*Cache also known as 'The Return 15'

Having found and adopted a number of Church Micros I thought it was about time that I contributed to the series myself. And what's more its a great end to 'The Return' series which stretches from Chichester Marina all the way to Fishbourne to return cachers from completing the 'Lipchis Canal Wander' series back to Chichester and eventually to where they started. 'The Return' series was inspired by my caching friend 'SAO_9' because he complained that my 'Lipchis Canal Wander' series was too 'A to B' for some people (like him) to complete. Then thinking on it I decided I didn't much like A to B series either!

The Church

Christians have worshiped on the site of the church for more than 750 years. The site of the church overlooks Fishbourne Creek which was formed as part of a busy harbour since Roman times, and probably earlier. The church stands south of the Chichester bypass, surrounded by trees and meadows, close to Fishbourne Place, a house of 1687.

The church consists of a restored C13 chancel with a Nave that was rebuilt in the C19 with aisles. The church building itself has been subject to changes and additions throughout its past but medieval graffiti can still be seen on the north east quoin, which may be pilgrims' marks.

The Cache

Please note that the coordinates published here are not where you will find the cache but they do take you close to the entrance to the church yard. The cache itself is only a short walk away. However, because of other caches in the vicinity you will need to cross a busy road and go through an underpass so please keep children close. To find it, please find the following information:

The coordinates will take you to two gates in the corner of the church car park.

A = Look at the gate closest to the finger post (it has a clear 'X' shape in its construction). How many horizontal rungs does it have?

B = Travel to the West side of the church. How many windows are there above the door?

C = Find the white metal cross. How many shields can you see?

D, E, F = Find Joan Frances Wilson. 9 April F9F7 to 1D January F9ED

G = Find Frank Barber. 5 August 19G9

The cache can then be found at these coordinates:

N AG AG.FAC
W GGG DE.BGB

If you are fidning this cache as part of 'The Return' series (in order) you may wish to find the following to take you back to the Chichester Ship Canal either to return to your start point or to complete my 'Lipchis Canal Wander' series:
'Big Green Ugly Thing' (GC4WF3F)
'Side Tracked - Chichester' (GC1QG0P)
After these caches, please follow the signs to Chichester Railway Station. The density of caches in this area prevent me from placing further caches.
