Geocache Description:

A cache placed on Veterans Day to honor the service of those in the military past and present.

Armistice Day (which coincides with Remembrance Day and Veterans Day) is commemorated every year on November 11 to mark the armistice signed between the Allies of World War I and Germany at Compiègne, France, for the cessation of hostilities on the Western Front of World War I, which took effect at eleven o'clock in the morning — the "eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month" of 1918.

In many parts of the world, people observe one or more commonly a two minute moment of silence at 11:00 a.m. local time as a sign of respect in the first minute for the roughly 20 million people who died in the war, and in the second minute dedicated to the living left behind, generally understood to be wives, children and families left behind but deeply affected by the conflict.

In the United States, Veterans Day is subtly different from that of other 11 November holidays. Instead of specifically honoring war dead, Veterans Day honors all American veterans living and dead. The official national remembrance of those killed in action is Memorial Day, originally called 'Decoration Day', from the practice of decorating the graves of soldiers, which originated in the years immediately following the American Civil War.

A regular plastic round cache hidden at the base of a cliff near the south entrance to a rocky cliff area along the M & M Trail.   Seasonal entrance fee for summit road but ample parking at entrance on Old Mountain Road or road side at M & M Trail head on Old Mountain Road.

Exercise caution especially with dogs and children as the trail travels near the crest of the cliffs in some places.

Remember to leave no trace.
