Geocache Description:

A geoláda a geocaching.hu oldalon GCPVP név alatt szerepel. Ne feledkezz el az ott szükséges jelszóról! This cache is also available on geocaching.hu as GCPVP.

A short hike (about 1 km - 0.6 mile - back and forth) first will take you to an abandoned quarry where the folds of the rock are fascinating to see and then to the location of the cache from where you have a great view of Pécsvárad.

Use the waypoints, the GPS may lead you to a dead end!

The Quarry
This used to be a limestone quarry. Who, and when used it is not clear. Supposedly rocks from here were taken to the construction of the Pécsvárad-Bátaszék railway in 1911. This is questionable, as limestone, being too soft, is not the best for such a construction. Granite is much preferred, and granite was also available near the construction, for example from the quarry near Erdősmecske. (If anyone has more information, I would appreciate it.)
The quarry is the most spectacular in the afternoon sun and in a bit rainier season. Due to precipitation the softer layers of rock are darker, more defined, it is easier to observe the structure of the rock.

Further to the Cache
After satisfying your fascination with the rock, keep going along the quarry! You will find a path. Don't trie to climb up the cliff! You surely would not gain time, but may endanger your life. Going around the quarry from the right is also cumbersome, I do not recommend it. The mentioned path starting left of the quarry soon will curve up to the grassy area above. As it was a surprise earlier to face the cliffs so suddenly, now it is the view that is unexpected. Above you is the highest peak of the Mecsek Mountain, the Zengő, with its 682 m height, under your feet is the small, pleasant city - and the geocache.

The Cache and Beyond
The cache is protected by briar and sloe. You do not have to get in, just reach in! It is quite large, you may bring larger swags: CD, book, mug, teddy bear, etc.
After logging you can continue up to the Zengő on unmarked dirt road/path. Sooner or later you will meet the official tourist trail, marked with a yellow line, that leads to the peak.

Thank you for coming. Enjoy your hike, have a nice time!
