June 2015 has been identified at Christchurch Erith for a long time as an important date as it marks the centenary of the installation of the bells. Not only is it the 100th anniversary of the bells, but also of the tower and spire, built 40 years after the rest of the church and paid for by Canon Boulden, the vicar of the day (at a cost of £5,776/4s/0d, which equates to around £1.5million today).
There are 8 bells cast by John Warner and Son, which were rehung by the local band in 2003.
They are rung every Sunday from 9.30am for the 10am service and on Monday evenings 8 to 9.30pm for practice so listen out for them if you happen to be caching at those times.
The ringers are part of the Lewisham District of the Kent County Association of Change Ringers.
