Geocache Description:

 Congregational Church

This 1850 Greek Revival Church, typical of so many New England small town churches, replaced the 1800 building that was torn down due to disrepair or unsuitability.

It has stood as a beacon of the faith the Pilgrims of the Mayflower brought to New England and has been the worship center of people of that faith for over one hundred twenty five years.

Seeing the problems requiring tax monies to support a church that not everyone claimed as its own the town established its own church society, where local citizens supported the church without any tax monies. Becket was the first community to employ this model of supporting churches, a model still in use today.

It's simplicity is its hallmark , both in side and outside, and the Paul Revere Bell is considered the only one in Berkshire County that is still in use. When the Revere bell cracked, it was reforged, when silver coins were added to the molten metal creating a better sounding bell.
