Geocache Description:

An exciting time for us..creating our first geocache!

For the past few years we have, on a regular basis, escaped our home in Lincoln to enjoy the beautiful ride over the mountain to the little rural town of Warren for breakfast. About a year ago the town of Warren allowed an enterprising hiker and trail builder to install a network of hiking trails in their town forest. We've had the opportunity to visit several times. Recently we noticed an old railroad track sitting on a couple of rocks at the Warren Town Forest/McVeety Trail head parking lot. After talking to the locals in town, we were informed that over 100 years ago there was a rail system for logging. Horses would haul the empty wagon up the hill on the rail to the site of what is now The Moosilauke Ravine Lodge. The horses would be unhitched, wagon loaded with logs, and gravity took the wagon down the hill....yikes! All of this is long gone and the trees have taken over for the most part. Although, if you continue on the trail you will descend to what looks like an old logging road. This flat stretch of land is where the rail system was. This area is a great place to see moose! For more info visit the Town of Warren Historical Society. The cache is located off the Baker River Trail, about 20 ft. from the trail in a lock-n-lock container.
