Geocache Description:

A series of geocaches placed in memory of two American schooners lost at sea during the War of 1812. This was the largest loss of life on the Great Lakes during the War of 1812.

“To remove encumbrances from the decks, and prepare for an engagement.” The Hamilton and Scourged had been cleared for action all day on August 7th 1813. There was however little action to be had by day. The real action came not at the hands of the opponent, but at the hand of nature. The geocache in located within Confederation Park, and placement has been authorized by the Hamilton Conservation Authority. There is no fee to enter the park. Confederation Park is closed from Dusk to Dawn. Please respect that. This cache is not at the posted coordinates! That spot, however, is the best place to park. from there, it is a short walk to each of the 5 caches within the series. If you want to complete the series in one shot, here is the best way to do so: 1) park in the lot near the posted coordinates for this cache. 2) visit the memorial and collect the information required for GC5P4K8 (multi) 3) follow the clues and find GC5TBE9 (letterbox hybrid); collect the code 4) walk to the final for GC5P4K8 (multi); collect the code 5) determine the location of the bonus cache and walk to the location Following the above itinerary, the total distance walked should be around 2 kms. As they say, your mileage may vary. To find this bonus cache, you will first need to be cleared for action. Do this by finding these two caches first: #1 - Hamilton & Scourge - 1812 Naval Memorial Garden (Multi-cache) #2 - Hamilton & Scourge - Archaeological Treasure Hunt (Letterbox Hybrid) Each cache will have a letter and either one or two digits recorded under the lid. For example: A 3/4 For each of the caches, add the 2 digits together (example, if the code in cache A is 3/4, then A = 7) or use the single digit if only one exists. That will give you two single digits, one per cache. These will be A and B, according to the letters recorded with the numbers. The cache is at N 43 14.372 + .AB4 W 79 44.787 + .AB4 (note: the 4 at the end was the code from the now-archived cache "Hamilton & Scourge - Ned Myers Account")
