Geocache Description:

Queen Adelaide Hill

A short walk and the best access to Lake Windermere along the whole of the eastern shore.

Access is from the car park on Rayrigg Road.  Follow the path from the car park down to the lake shore.  If you turn left first and walk along the shore path you will come across a large rock at the edge of the lake.  This is where Queen Adelaide - consort to King William IV of England - came ashore on her visit to Windermere in 1840. . (If you carry on along this path you will come to a gate where you can cross a field to join Rayrigg Road.) To continue the walk, after finding the cache, turn around here and retrace your steps to the jetties

Continue northwards, past the sailing base and the boathouse and you come to Millerground Cottage.  The path leaves the lake here and climbs up by some lovely waterfalls back to Rayrigg Road.

Turn right along Rayrigg Road, and a few yards later go through the next gate and follow the path upwards to the top of Adelaide Hill.  This hill, although small, affords wonderful views of the lake.  Continue across the top and drop down the other side back to the car park,

Time: the complete walk can be done in about 20 minutes unless you spend time enjoying the view.  Great place for picnics.
