The Small Towns of NH

Chatham is the 12th smallest town in NH and is located in the northeast corner of Carroll County. Chatham was granted to Peter Livins and others, in 1767 by colonial Governor Bening Wentworth. The town was named in honor of William Pitt, Earl of Chatham and Prime Minister of Great Britain, who had recently led Britain to victory in the Seven Years War (French and Indian War in America). Chatham was regranted in 1770 by Governor John Wentworth to a group including Samual Langdon, president of Harvard College and creator of the "Blanchard Map" of the North Country. The population was 337 at the 2010 census with a density of 5.9 sq. mi.
