The Yarra Expedition Part 1: Point Gellibrand to Herring Island
'Walk the path, and journey to the source. These are not metaphors. They are instructions'.
The Event Series: This is the first event of many which involve eventually caching along the entire course of the Yarra river. The purpose of this event series is to travel the river from its end to beginning and see it in all it's form, it's diversity, who it homes, it's changes, bends and beauty. This expedition will be broken into a series of half day walks. Part 2 will be Herring Island to Collingwood Children's Farm
The Event PART 1 - Bike ride from Williamstown to Herring Island
We will be starting where the river meets the sea. Meeting at the Posted coordinates - Gellibrand Point - Timeball Tower Williamstown at 9am. The event will run for half an hour and conclude at 9:30am where those of us doing the ride will depart. We will be following the Capital City trail and catch the Spotswood punt across the Yarra river. The cost is $5.00 one way. From arrival at Fisherman's Bend Port Melbourne, we will follow the Yarra alongside Southbank, Crown, Botanic Gardens, finishing next to Herring Island Richmond on the CCT trail.
In summary: Event time is 9am - 9:30am. You do not need to do the ride to do log the event
You may walk or kyak the distance. The majority of us will be doing this on bike
You will need a helmet and to obey road rules at all times
You will need $5.00 for the punt/>
The estimated ride will take 1 hour. Depends how often we stop for caches :)
Join me for part or whole of the walk!
