Geocache Description:

Diamond Falls is one of the many geologic wonders in the Soufriere area of Saint Lucia.  Located within the lovely Diamond Falls Botanical Garden & Mineral Springs, it is easily one of the most unique waterfalls anywhere.

Saint Lucia and its terrain were formed primarily by volcanic activity.  The spring water feeding the Diamond River emanates from the nearby Sulphur Springs volcano.  As it moves to become the falls, it is mixed with many different minerals and volcanic gas.  This gives the falls different colors.  It also carries volcanic silt, pebbles and the occasional rock, so no showering in these falls!

The falling water and silt has carved out truly unique impressions in the underlying rock face.  The rock also appears to vary in color, depending on the light and the most prevalent minerals being carried by the falls.

The coordinates will take you right up to the ideal viewing area for these falls.  To claim this earth cache, please message me with the following information:

1. What is the approximate height of the falls?

2. Given that the entire island was formed by volcanic activity, of which type of rock do you think the rock face behind the falls is composed?

3. What accentuating colors do you see in the rock face / falls?

4. Which minerals do you think contribute to the colors you see?

5. OPTIONAL: send me or post in your log a photo of yourself/group with the falls in the background, or the nearby mineral baths.

Note that there is a modest entry fee for the Botanical Gardens including the falls, and an additional charge for bathing in the mineral baths.
