We were recently shown the remains of this awesome shingle mill overlooking the Ponaganset River. Check out the different levels which flowed down towards the river and the lovely river view and sounds. The hike is more than a mile round trip, but it's pretty easy on nice trails which are well marked. Mrs. RFD's mom, xMetts, and three little Geodogs all approved of the hike.
We've included a great trail map on this page, although only the yellow and orange trails are blazed so far.. The mill is just north of the cache and there are other cellar holes nearby. Dawn to dusk caching only. Cache is not in a stone wall and may be a tough find in deep snow. Please watch kids and pets near the mill remnants... It's a long way down. Coordinates averaged with a Garmin GPSr and iPhone. Please sign the log (online finds without a corresponding physical log signature will be deleted) and rehide exactly as found to prevent muggling. Don't forget to bring a pen!
Hunting will likely be allowed so orange is a must in season. Parking coordinates are supplied for Winsor Road, but there is another trailhead on East Killingly road if you'd prefer a longer or through hike. Maybe you'll hear barred owls as we did on our early evening hike.
Foster is a young town, and was part of Scituate until 1781. The background image is of part of the Ponaganset River further south.
