Geocache Description:

The Bay Circuit Trail and Greenway is a permanent recreation trail that extends through 37 towns in eastern Massachusetts from Plum Island to Kingston Bay. It has been “on the drawing boards” since 1929 but was never really developed. In the 1980s and 1990s interest was rekindled in getting this trail completed. Progress has been slow, especially on the South Shore it seems but in 2012 the Appalachian Mountain Club and The Trustees of Reservations joined with the Bay Circuit Alliance to move the idea along. More information can be found at: http://www.baycircuit.org/about/Kiosks were erected at various BCT trailheads in Hanson some time ago. I have decided to try to put a series of geocaches near or at each of the kiosks (where appropriate) to draw attention to this trail.   This particular kiosk is located south of the railroad tracks and marks the southern end of a long stretch of on-road walking if you are north (east) bound on the BCT.  South of the kiosk is officially a break in the BCT where it passes over private property.  Presumably this is a "no trespassing" area.  Following the old cart path southerly would eventually lead you into the Burrage Pond Wildlife Management Area and what is known as the Indian Crossway. Please access this trailhead where there is a BCT kiosk at the end of Crooker Place directly on the left after the tracks.  Please respect that Crooker Place turns into a private driveway immediately after it crosses the railroad tracks if you go straight.  Upon crossing the tracks immediately turn left into a small parking area. The cache is located a short way down the trail, not a long walk at all in the woods on near an old hydraulic platform trailer that was used for bogs in this area long ago. I would still consider this cache a park and grab because of the short walk from the parking lot kiosk to the cache. Enjoy and please pack in pack out. :-)
