Ripponlea train station was a late addition to the Sandringham train line. Built around 1913 the station is one of only two examples of Edwardian era train station architecture, the other being Mentone. More details can be read in the report on the web at the Victorian Heritage Database
What makes this station cache-worthy, picturesque and worth visiting is the surrounding public garden which is framed by exotic Canary Island palm trees. The trees complement and mark off the generous open space for geopets and kids to roam around in from the surrounding roads. Younger children haven't been forgotten with their own (mostly) fenced off play area.
The cache (a small mint tin) is placed just off the path at the northern end of the garden near the play equipment. This path remains unmapped by Google and thus is not indicated as such on the official geocaching app or c:geo. It is however well used by locals and commuters living in Elwood and surrounding streets.
Whilst the location is screened from garden-using muggles you can still be seen by locals and commuters using the path in either direction as well as from above by those waiting for a city bound train. Please exercise a degree of discretion.
