Geocache Description:

A simple puzzle cache that involves a bit of on-line research to find the final coordinates.

It is strongly recommended that you solve both Cawsand Church Micro Puzzles before embarking on a visit to the GZ.

The cache is NOT at the headline coordinates - you do not need to hire a boat to visit them!!

Local and Church History

Welcome to the parish church of Cawsand: St Andrew's Mission Church in the Anglican Diocese of Truro and county of Cornwall England.

Before the County boundaries were reformed in the 19th Century, the two villages of Cawsand and Kingsand were in different counties and parishes in spite of the fact that the two villages are so close to one another that they appear to be one.

The original county boundary was a tiny stream that separated the two villages.

Folk in Cawsand were served by the church at Rame in Rame Parish whilst the inhabitants of Kingsand were served by the big church at Maker where many of the Edgcumbe family are buried and memorialised.

Both parish churches are a relatively long and demanding walk from the two villages and, as was the case in many rural areas, it was decided to build a Chapel of Ease or Mission Church to provide people with a more convenient and local place to worship.

The Church of St Andrews in Cawsand was built for just this purpose.

In more recent times the parishes of Maker and Rame have been united to form the parish of Maker-with-Rame and St Andrews Church continues to serve the spiritual needs of both villages.

The Cache

To find the cache coordinates you need to do some research to find the following dates:

1. In which year was St Andrews Church in Cawsand built? This gives you ABCD

2. When were the two parishes of Maker and Rame united to form Maker-with-Rame Parish? This gives you EFGH

The cache can be found at  N 50 EF.(C-A)FG W 004 AE.FB(C-A)

The cache is located on a public footpath and offers some great views across Plymouth Sound.

The cache is a camo'd tube about 10 cms long and 3 cms in diameter.
Tree cover may be a problem here but the hint should point you in the right direction.

!! Beware - there are some unfenced steep drops adjacent to the GZ - take care with kids and dogs!!

You may need tweezers to extract the log and Please Bring Your Own Pen.
