Geocache Description:

Altitude=10824ft., Elev. Gain from valley floor=5980ft. Terrain is steep, rocky, and rife with cliffs. Friable scree slopes are the norm. 30 to 45 degree slopes on all sides and no real trails make this one a tough proposition. I'll be impressed if you bag this one...

The Cascade Vista Geocache is located near the top of Cascade Mtn. It is in a 16mm army green ammo box (the big one). The original contents of the cache were:
Instructions, a Nerf football, an outdoor paddleball set, a logbook, pen, and pencil w/pencil-sharpener.
Finding the cache should not be hard if you can get there at all. Cascade mountain is a veritable fortress in the sky (see Cascade Mountain photo). It is flanked by cliffs on all but the East side which, unfortunately, is the furthest approach. I stared at it for several years before I had the courage to try and climb it. I have only taken one friend up on one occassion and he was somewhat less than grateful for the opportunity. Estimated ONE WAY time from car to cache ranges from 2 hours--if you are fit and knowledgeable--to 10 hours (no kidding). There are several routes (I've climbed up from all points of the compass) but no trails and no water available on the mountain. If you have climbed Timpanogas Mtn. to the North then you have some idea of the effort required but don't expect to see anyone else on this mountain. Plan on a full-day trip and carry plenty of water. Note: Moose, Cougar, and Bear have all been spotted in the lower areas of this mountain. I don't recommend this for couch-potatoes or the faint-of-heart.

If you like wild, isolated, and physically demanding hikes and you like to sweat, bushwack, negotiate cliff bands, and don't mind climbing stair steppers for hours on end then this one may be right up your alley. Mountain Goats can be seen on the upper slopes and the "Vista" up top is truly breathtaking. Wave to me if you make it and don't forget to log your story--should be interesting reading. Good Luck.
