Geocache Description:

This is our second series of a set of family-friendly caches in the Southern Vermont area. Like our first series, this one is in a multi-use facility in the town of Manchester Center, Vermont. This series will take you on a 1-mile walking tour of the Hunter Fairgrounds Athletic Fields.

There is no equipment on these two fields currently; however, you can imagine your favorite sport being played as you walk around the fields, looking for caches with specific sports names.

About 1/3 of the walk is on a gravel trail and the rest is though two large grassy fields. At no time will you have to go into the woods more than a few feet.

Please begin your walk by parking in the designated parking area and then walking through (if open) or around (if closed) the big iron gates, which are on the NW side of the parking area. Please do not drive past the gates.

There are four regular caches and a fifth Bonus regular cache in the series. You will need to find all of the first four to be able to look for the fifth.

These caches have been placed with the permission of the General Manager of the facility.

A parking Waypoint is provided below.

Four caches have sports names as a portion of their names. They are for the sports of "Soccer", "Lacrosse", "Football", and "Baseball". Each cache has a code and a number written on the top of its log. You will need all of these to find the Bonus cache, which is called "Touchdown/Homerun/Goal".

You will find an "A" and its value in Soccer, "BC" and its value in Lacrosse, "D" and its value in Football, and "EF" and its value in Baseball.

You will then need to substitute the values from these four caches into the coordinates formula in the listing for the Bonus "Touchdown/Homerun/Goal" cache in order to find it.

The coordinates formula for that cache is: N43° 11.ABC' and W73° 03.DEF'

Please bring your own writing utensil, as there is no room for one in the caches.

Caution: Please watch out for and step over a hard-to-see small rusted fence, lying on the ground, close to GZ. There are two small pieces of pink tape on it. A strip of camo tape around a big tree points you to the geotrail.

If you enjoyed doing this series, you might also be interested in our other multi-cache family-friendly series in the area. It consists of seven caches at the multi-use facility named the Dana Thompson Recreational Park, which is often just referred to as "The Rec". The caches for that series can be reached by walking south on the trail that took you into the Hunter Fairgrounds Athletic Fields. It will take you to "The Rec". Alternatively, you can drive into town on Routes 7A and 30 and get to "The Rec" that way and park there.

One of the parking areas there is at N43° 11.155' and W73° 03.336'

Congratulations to pmvv on the FTF.
