Geocache Description:

Duckhole Lake is a flooded sinkhole that is part of the surrounding cave and karst landscape.

The idea is to enjoy a walk and the lake itself, so the hide is not too difficult. GPSr might be best, as phone reception cannot be guaranteed. (My phone had none, but my portable wifi seemed okay).

Hope you enjoy the experience.

Felt it was time to give back to the game, and so this is our first cache, located approximately 7.5km North, from the Hastings Caves State Reserve.

The detail on the Parks website advise:

  • This is an easy stroll to an idyllic lake. Level track suitable for all age groups.
  • The walk takes you through a forest of stringybarks and rainforest species such as sassafras and myrtle, and sections of tea tree swamp. The track follows a late 19th century sawmill tramway for much of the way, and remnants of the tramway can be seen.
  • 1 hour return (2.1km one way)
  • Duckhole Lake is South of Dover:
  • if approaching from the north, take the old Hastings Road from the A6 at a junction 3.1km south of the Esperance River bridge in the township of Strathblane, after 1km turn right onto the Darcy Link Road and then left onto Creekton Rd until carpark and start of walking track is reached.
  • if coming from the south, turn off A6 onto Hastings Road, then turn off Hastings Road 3 kms after the Visitor Centre right onto Chestermans Road, then right onto Coal Hill Road. Note that these are single land roads.
  • Dogs are welcome if kept on a leash. Bicycles are not permitted.

<<Update 20 June 2020: - container is now a medium to large cammo-ed PVC pipe.>>

Cache is a medium (sistema look-alike) container, with log book & pen, and when placed, had a few swaps, including a 90minute cassette tape for those who remember, several un-opened surprise toys, some dominos, and a small notebook.
