The Devil's Gate Reservoir is a dry, brush filled flood channel in Pasadena's San Gabriel Mountains. This is the scene of some strange and nefarious events. On March 23, 1957, 8 year old Tommy Bowman was hiking with his family in the area, ran a few yards ahead of his family, turned a corner and disappeared. Despite searching the area and calling his name, his family was unable to find him. A 400 person search party spent a week looking for him in the rough terrain, including helicopters, bloodhounds, mounted patrols and professional trackers, and after the week the search was called off and the disappearance never solved to this day.
Another child disappeared three years later. 6 year old Bruce Kremen got tired while hiking in the same area with his YMCA group and he fell behind. The group leader instructed Bruce to return to the camp, which was visible from their location and about 300 yards away. The group leader returned to the rest of the hiking group, and at some point in that 300 yards, Bruce disappeared, never to be seen again. Some say the area is cursed, and others believe local occultists conducted rituals that led to the opening of a portal to another dimension and that portal is in the Devil's Gate area, snacking on unsuspecting kids.
