Geocache Description:

Meet between 10:30-11am at the posted coordinates (the parking lot near the visitors' center for Sequim Bay State Park).  At 11, those who wish can go for a bike ride on the Olympic Discovery Trail into Sequim.

The 18th in a series of events along the many mostly flat, mostly paved biking/walking trails in the Seattle area.  Since it's summer, we'll go a little farther afield to the beautiful Olympic Peninsula.

Per geocaching.com event guidelines, the actual 'event' is the meet-up from 10:30-11am at the posted coordinates, which is the main parking lot at Sequim Bay State Park.

Note: Parking in the State Park parking lot requires a Discover Pass.

This event is outdoors, but I will only cancel this event if the weather is terrible: heavy rain, lightning/thunder, snow or ice. Bring a waterproof layer if it might rain, and enough layers/gloves/etc to ward off any cold.  The trail is fully paved to Sequim, so the ride should be suitable for all bikes.

Information for the ride:

The Olympic Discovery Trail starts in downtown Port Townsend and heads west into Port Angeles and beyond, although some sections have yet to be completed.  It's planned to continue all the way to the ocean, although most of the trail west of Port Angeles has not been completed and there would be few services even if it were.  We will be riding a much more tame section of the trail, from the State Park to Sequim and back. Route map here: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=6914113

There are places to buy food and drink in Sequim near the turnaround point, but you should bring water and any food you might need to get there in the first place.

Please show up well before 11am so we can leave on time.  Pay attention to the ferry schedules if you will be traveling across the Sound.  Check your brakes and air beforehand if you will be biking.

Participants in the optional bicycle ride hold harmless the cache owner/event organizer and assume all risks and responsibilties involved in riding a bicycle on trails and streets. Wear a helmet, dress in layers, and bring a spare tube.

Note: there may be construction work on the Trail at the south end of the park, to add a bridge.  Our route should avoid this, but be aware if you plan to travel to the event using the trail to the south.

If you have any suggestions/requests for trails to visit on future events, feel free to mention them in your log.
