Geocache Description:

Welcome to Lawson Common!!!  This mystery cache is designed to be a fun field puzzle that introduces people to the memorial park here in Scituate Center. Visitors will need to visit the various markers, plaques and other associated items to obtain the necessary numbers for determining the coordinates for the final hide.

I highly recommend printing the first page (or two) to use as a worksheet - and paying attention to ALL the notes! There are a couple of tricky ones!

The listed coordinates are for a random spot near the middle of Lawson Common, which is a small, public parcel that acts essentially as a town common. There are war monuments, a water fountain, cannons, trees and benches positioned all across the well-manicured lawn. The land was donated by one of its most famous historical residents and benefactors, the "Copper King", Thomas Lawson. Lawson's former homestead, the lavish estate known as "Dreamwold", exists now in scattered pieces around Scituate Center. The most prominent landmark remaining from this property is the Lawson Tower, which stands just a few hundred yards away.

To find this cache, you will need to take a short tour of this site and acquaint yourself with the history etched upon the various items you will find here. When you have completed your visit, you will be able to translate your answers into the coordinates for the final cache find. Each of the places you will need to visit has been marked as a numbered reference point. This should make your visit to the park a little easier to navigate – and your coordinates a little easier to translate.

Find the answers to the following questions at each of these reference points:

  1. A = _____ The number of times the last name "Brown" appears on the monument.
  2. B = _____ Dolan was a member of Battalion (BAT) number B73 men.
  3. C = _____ The numbers of words on the second line of the plaque.
  4. D = _____ The number of times the first name "John" appears on the plaque.
  5. E = _____ The numbers of letters on the fourth line on the plaque.
  6. F = _____ Each cannon weighs 1F89 pounds. (Check end of barrel.)
  7. G = _____ Private Osborne was a member of the 2Gth infantry.
  8. H = _____ The number of deceased veterans listed on the plaque.
  9. I = _____ The number of pachyderms bathing in the fountain - subtract 1.
  10. J = _____ The plaque was dedicated in June 193J.
  11. K = _____ The number of deceased veterans listed on the memorial.
  12. L = _____ Subtract F from E to get L... That is to say, E - F = L.
  13. M = _____ Add I and D together to get M... That is to say, I + D = M.
  14. N = _____ Add B and I together to get N... That is to say, B + I = N.
  15. O = _____ Subtract H from C to get O... That is to say, C - H = O.

The final is located at... N 42 BL.GMA, W 70 OC.KJN

N 42 _________, W 71 ________

You are looking for a small container hidden about "D" feet off the ground.

Enjoy Lawson Common!!!

Congratulations to jonnybgoode9 for the FTF!!!
