The feature of this cache is the canal. Completed in 1802 after ten years of building, it is the first canal built in the United States.
A British owned Company was chartered to navigate the Connecticut River here in 1791. They built 9 locks and a dam around the Great Falls. When the railroad finally came to town, river travel declined and the locks were used for water power.
There is a fish ladder here open seasonally. If your lucky enough to catch it open you should check it out.
You will see a history marker at GZ. As you read it you can make a stealthy grab. I made it easy here as to not draw attention by having to look around.
