2016 Victorian Geocaching Adventure Festival

Open for nominations

VGAF is on! Victoria has a distinctive appeal, which encompasses gourmet food and wine, history, spectacular scenery and especially outdoor experiences. We want to honor those geocachers who left the beaten track and ventured out into the wild. Grab your friends and have a sneaky mid-week pub meal with us. Of course you don't have to nominate or vote for any caches, however we'd like to invite everyone to participate.

This year's awards will be handed out in the same categories as last year:

  • Outstanding Adventure Cache
It is listed as a T3 or higher and any of the following attributes are set: "significant hike", "long hike (+10km)", "difficult climbing", "may require wading", "may require swimming", "snowshoes", "cross country Skis", "climbing gear", "boat" or "scuba gear". Please provide a write-up why this cache should win >> this will be the pitch for the voting form.

  • Outstanding Rope Access Cache
It is listed as a T5 and the attribute "climbing gear" is set.

  • Outstanding Water Access Cache
It is listed as a T5 and the attributes "boat required" or "scuba gear" are set.

  • Outstanding Hiking Cache
The attributes "significant hike" or "long hike (+10km)" are set.

  • Captain Risky Award - The Dodgy D4
It is listed as a T3 or higher and the attribute "dangerous area" is set. The dodgier, the better.

  • Best Adventure Log
There are no special requirements. It is all about the overall experience.

  • Best Snow Adventure Log
The log is about attempting a cache in winter with a closed snow cover.

  • Best Landscape Picture
The picture is showcasing the great landscapes of Victoria. It is on a log of a cache which would qualify for category 1-5.

  • Best Action Picture
The picture is showing a geocacher in action. It is on a log of a cache which would qualify for category 1-5.

  • Spirit of the Game - The Corroded Carabiner
A geocacher who placed or logged a cache in Victoria and showed great spirits and good sense of the adventure community.

If you want to sponsor any of these awards with a prize, please get in touch with us.

Procedure, Nominations, Voting & Award Results

Last year we jumped right on it: Nominate, Vote followed by the Awards. This year we do things slightly differently so you have far more time to nominate caches and find the nominated caches.

Nominations
They are open from now until the 30th of April. Just follow the link to access the nomination form. There you will also find the requirements for each category again. We'll update a bookmark list of nominated caches on a regular basis which means you can go out there early and check out the gems of 2016.

2016 VGAF Nomination Form

  • There will be a maximum of 30 caches to vote on in any one category, if more 30 caches are nominated, they must receive more than 1 nomination from different people to be eligible. If more than 30 caches are still nominated, they will need 3 nominations etc.
  • The cache is listed in Victoria.
  • The final cache location is in Victoria.
  • Cache size is small or bigger (micro and other are excluded for physical caches).
  • The caches or logs must still be active at the end of 2016 (logs can be on archived caches)
  • You can NOT nominate a cache you have placed, a photo you have taken or a log you have written, but that doesn't mean you can't canvas someone else to.
  • Photos MUST be online on a cache log.
  • The requirements for each category as listed above have to be fulfilled.
  • Logs or publishing happened within 2016 (1.1.2016 - 31.12.2016).
