The railway bridge spanned the Tisza river between 1858 and 1946 as the first permanent bridge in Szeged. The line, which belonged to the Austrian-Hungarian State Railways, ran from Vienna to Temesvár via Budapest. The Orient Express used this bridge sometimes. But it was bombed by the Allies in 1944 and then blown up by the retreating German troops. It was not rebuilt because the traffic had become insignificant after WW1.
You can climb on the structure but be careful: it is very steep. Also, local youngsters may be present there in the evening, drinking, and doing who knows what.
You can walk down to the river and watch the view of the city from this angle .
Good hunting.
