A CITO in our favourite Mountain area.

The Mount Disappointment Forest area has almost 300 caches (at time of publishing the event), all that are well visited by cachers. Some of the latest logs of the area have commented on rubbish at the various camping sites, so we'd like to help out with a series of clean ups. Our second Mt. Dissa CITO will be held at No 1 Camp with plans to continue to clean up other camping areas.

Mount Dissa has given us an immense amount of joy, touring around, setting out caches, reading logs, meeting new people and has been a great place for "non bush" people to get out there and cache in the wild in relative safety and close proximity to civilisation.

Nestled within the Great Dividing Range to the south-east of Broadford, the Mt Disappointment State Forest was a popular bushwalking, mountain-biking and horse-riding area prior to the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires, when the region was extensively burnt. By mid-2012 an extensive government-sponsored bushfire-recovery program had been implemented, including the rebuilding of visitor facilities and the reopening of campsites. The regeneration of the forest is also well underway, aided by some wet winters following the bushfires.

Mount Disappointment State Forest is an accessible location near Melbourne with plenty of facilities, camping areas and 4wd trails. The park is popular with hikers, especially those hoping to copy Hamilton Hume and William Hovell who first scaled the mountain in 1824. Apparently, they were so disappointed that they couldn't see the ocean from the top that they named the mountain after their feelings. There are many tracks within the park for 4-wheel driving, with some quite challenging and it is also quite popular with trail bikers and mountain biker, and of course geocaches galore.

The CITO will centre on No 1 Camp camping area and the surrounding area out to 500m, including all tracks, paths and roads within the area.

We will supply rubbish bags and a trailer to remove whatever we find on the day.

There are long drop toilets at the site, but no running water.
