Cache is located just outside the walls of St.Tropez Citadel, the
fort located on the hill overlooking St.Tropez.
English : Cache is located just outside the Citadel walls, about a
15 minute walk from central St.Tropez...although the Citadel is
only open during normal working hours, this cache is available 24/7
as it is outside the citadel walls.
We visit this location from the UK about once every 6-12
months...We decided to plant a cache here as we had tried to do 'La
Vigie' an hour and a half up the coast, but failed miserably as all
the roads were shut, so thought a new cache in this general
location would be good!
The views here are pretty spectacular, especially around
sunset...from here you should be able to see Villas belonging to
the likes of Brigite Bardot, Mohammed Fayed...other people who hang
out here include King and Queen of Sweden, "Alexis" Joan Collins,
Julia Roberts, Athina Onassis, Rod Steward, Jean Paul Belmondo,
Eddi Jordan, Ornella Muti, Goldie Hawn (she has her house in Cap d
' Antibes) all bluebloods & their youngsters, Hollywood stars
in crowds & you & me...a trip to St Tropez harbour at night
to see the rich & famous hanging out on their huge luxury boats
is a must!
As for the Citadelle itself :
"After the murder of the french King Henry the 3rd and the conflict
between Catholics and Protestants in France in which the Spanish
King Philip the 2nd took an active military part, what Tropezians
feared most, was an attack from the Spanish or Savoie fleet.
The town had thrived during the XVIth Century and many dwellings
were built outside the city walls.
Under the counselling of the Governor of Provence d'Epernon's
engieneers, the inhabitants decided to extend the battlements so
that the town and the hill known as "la Colline des Moulins" (the
present hill stand of the Citadelle) were encompassed within the
city walls.
This first fortification was in fact an entrenchment made of an
earth bank surrounded by a ditch erected at the end of 1589. The
present surrounding wall overlooking the sea is a reminder of this
former layout."
HAVE FUN!
