On Omalos Plateau and on a small hill there is the tower and the chapel of the legendary chieftain Chadzimichalis Giannaris (1851-1916). He originated from the village of Laki and wished to be buried here. Giannaris was one of the pioneers of the Cretan revolutions against the Turks in 1866-1869 and took part in politics until Crete was united with independent Greece in 1913.
He was jailed several times by the Turks but always managed to escape. Actually the chapel of Agios Panteleimon, next to the tower, was built as a thanking offering for an escape in 1860. On the same fort, on December 1st, 1913, Giannaris, together with the other chieftain from Laki, Anagnostis Mandakas, raised the Greek flag after centuries of slavery.
The cache is a film canister and is hidden in the tower yard. The best access to the tower is given with a WP.

Στο οροπέδιο του Ομαλού και πάνω σε μικρό ύψωμα υπάρχει ο πύργος και το εκκλησάκι του θρυλικού οπλαρχηγού Χατζημιχάλη Γιάνναρη (1851-1916) από τους Λάκκους, που θέλησε να ταφεί εδώ. Ο Γιάνναρης ήταν από τους πρωτεργάτες των επαναστάσεων του 1866-1869 και των πολιτικών ζυμώσεων ως την Ένωση της Κρήτης με την Ελλάδα το 1913.
Είχε φυλακιστεί πολλές φορές από τους Οθωμανούς αλλά πάντα κατάφερνε να δραπετεύσει. Μάλιστα και η εκκλησία του Αγίου Παντελεήμονα, δίπλα στον πύργο του, κτίστηκε ως τάμα για την απόδραση του 1860 από το φρούριο του Φιρκά. Στο ίδιο φρούριο, την 1η Δεκεμβρίου 1913, μαζί με τον επίσης Λακκιώτη, Αναγνώστη Μάντακα ύψωσαν την Ελληνική σημαία μετά από αιώνες σκλαβιάς.
Η κρύπτη είναι ένα κουτάκι από φιλμ και είναι τοποθετημένη στον περίβολο του Πύργου. Η καλύτερη πρόσβαση στον πύργο είναι από το σημείο που δίδεται.
