historic site, wonderful hilltop views
There are great views almost 360 Degrees from this rural hilltop.
The cache is outside the wall, but do go in and check out the old stones and the 200+ year history. See the hyperlink for Find A Grave listings.
I didn't even realize until I showed this page to my daughter, the family historian, that I have ancestors buried here!
Joseph Carley was my 5th Great-grandfather on my Dad's side. Never knew there was a Whitingham VT connection - we've now come full circle since I moved here. Wow!
"Joseph Carley, b:07 Feb 1716 in Mass, d: 07 Mar 1808 in Whitingham.
When he was 16 he enlisted in the Revolutionary Army and was a member of artillery company. He fought in battles such as White Plains, Germantown, Monmouth, and Yorktown. At Yorktown he fixed the shells that caused Cornwallis to surrender. On Jun 9 1793, Washington signed his discharge papers and he was awarded the Badge of Merit. He became a farmer and was Lieutenant in Militia Company after the Revolution."
His son Jonathan is also buried here, and he was my 4th GG.
