Most often we are led to a cemetery that points out an important
person in history. This is a personal introduction to my
grandpa.
Though he served in World War One, he
never talked of it much or made a big deal of it. He did his duty
as a PVT in the US Army overseas. But what really made him stand
out in my mind and heart was how he always lit up when company
came. He loved our visits.. our summers were filled with helping
him pick strawberries or swimming in a spring-fed creek where I met
my namesake ( a lil otter came darting right into my face when I
was about 9 yrs old in that creek ) Life was simple then. I
remember a tale of how Grandpa, when building a house, hit his
thumb with a hammer.. that he never uttered a word but just kept on
working. Somewhere there is a lesson, perhaps one that tells you to
keep going even in pain, that life doesn't stand still or stop to
allow you to heal.. that you heal as you go on. I yet miss visiting
him.. perhaps with your visit there he'll always have that company
near.
Which holiday did my grandpa die?
