Anyone traveling on the Lincoln Woods Trail can see evidence of Lincoln’s logging history. The former railroad bed still has ties in place and even a piece of rail. Loggers lived in logging camps that were placed in various spots along the railroad. One of these camps, Camp 7, is the location of this cache. A bedframe and assorted other metal pieces left over from the logging days still remain at this spot.
To reach the cache, park at the Lincoln Woods parking lot (fee required), 5 miles east of Lincoln on the Kancamagus Highway. Walk to the ranger cabin and take the stairs down on your left. Bear left, and then cross over the large suspension bridge. Enjoy the river view while crossing and then turn right on the Lincoln Woods Trail, which is nearly flat as it follows the wide old logging railroad grade. The cache, which is approximately 2.5 miles away, is a small bison container. Bring your own pen.
Cautionary note: There is a piece of wire going from a tree trunk to the ground near a multi-trunked tree that would be easy to trip on. The cache is not near that spot.
