When I was in High School, I took an English class that focused on Women in History. An interesting bit of NH History: Grace D. Owen of Concord NH was given the lowest social security number 001-01-0001 in 1936
The number was supposed to be given to the Social Security Board Chairman John Winant of NH. He turned down the opportunity so the number was issued to the first NH resident to apply for their social security card. Grace Owen applied for her card on November 24, 1936
