Geocache Description:

The coordinates will bring you to Mary J’s stone, the only one left standing in this old cemetary. She’s a veteran, so give her a salute. This is a multi-cache....hidden before there were multis...so read below!

You’ll need a compass for this one. From her stone, take a bearing of 52° and the cache is 20 paces in that direction. (By the way, a pace is two steps. I am not a giant, although I do have long legs.)

This is an easy cache to find, especially with the clue, so the challenge will be finding the back roads to this place. One good dirt road comes within .2 miles of Mary’s cemetary which is on a rough woods road. So, you don’t need to do any bushwhacking.

The cache is a clear Gladware container with a green lid. I know it has a hole and will replace it when I get some decent cache containers. Everything is currently in ziplock bags.

The following information was sent to me from a fellow geocacher mscrep: As an aside, you should know that Mary J. was not a veteran.  Her flag holder identifies her as a member of the Women's Relief Auxiliary. This was essentially the Women's Auxiliary of the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR).  The GAR was a Civil War veterans organization.  The WRA was primarily composed of the wives and mothers of GAR members.   Given Mary J.'s date of birth and death, she could have been either.  Essentially, she was a member of a patriotic organization, not a veteran of the armed services.  I saluted anyway, she kept the homefires burning during the civil war.  Probably worried to death about whatever family member she had in the service. The graves of GAR members were supposed to get pertpetual care (The real purpose of the flag holder).  Somebody is laying down on the job at that cemetery.
