Aurabanen
The Aurabanen was a narrow-track railway (gauge 750 mm) through Litldalen between Sunndalsøra and Osvatnet in Møre og Romsdal county. The course was built as an industrial railroad in connection with hydropower development in the area, but also carried out some passenger traffic. The lowest stretch from Sunndalsøra and into the valley (160 meters above sealevel) was completed in 1916. From Dalen station there was a train lift, which pulled the trains up to "Top Elevator" about 800 above sea level. The tow lift was designed as a trolley with a crossing in the middle of the road. The trolleys on the elevator had room for two cars. From the top of the elevator, the path continued to Holbu and Osvatnet. The course had both steam engine and gasoline locomotives. However, the company went bankrupt already in 1919, and the stretch from Sunndalsøra to Linset was then replaced by a roadway. The stretch to the Osbuvatnet was completed in 1941. During the Second World War a new trail was introduced from Sunndalsøra to Hammerkaia, and the launching of a new track upwards towards Linset was begun, but never completed. The highest stretch from Holbu to Osbuvatnet was abolished in 1951, and the rest of the railway was abolished in 1954. The trains for both the train lifts and the railway line are still visible in the terrain and are very suitable for a short hiking or cycling trip.
