Located in Meramec State Park home to more than 40 caves and some of the nations rarest bats. The local woods are filled with many common Missouri animals such as Deer, Fox, and Raccoon. There are also some not so common animals such as Bobcat and Black bear.
As you search for the cache visit Greens Cave. It has a 150-foot high entrance filled with finch and martins nesting in the walls. Listen to their songs and watch their aerial acrobatics. As you walk back into the cave you will hear rushing water as a cascading spring pours cold clear water from the depths of the earth.
The easy way to reach this cache is by canoe. Put in up stream from the Park and float right to the cave. Over-land is much harder, there are no established trails to the cave. Map and compass are needed. Here are two locations to park your car, both require a little over 2-mile hike to the cache. Highway 185 trailhead - N38 12.418 W091 5.456. Hamilton Iron Works - N38 10.137 W091 04.035
The cache area can be dangerous so be careful and keep a close watch on the kids. The views will be some of the best you will see in Missouri.
This is the third placement of this cache. The first two were stolen so I have moved this one off the beaten path a few hundred yards. I hope you take the time to find the cave and overlook, it is the main reason to visit this cache location.
Good luck, good hunting
Butch
