Geocache Description:

This cache is located at the site of the Meriden Covered Bridge in Plainfield, NH. After signing log, please replace as found.

CAUTION: Be careful when searching for this cache as this is an active, one-lane covered bridge. Vehicles do use it frequently. They might not see you there, so it is NOT a good place for children to be. Having a partner be on the lookout for vehicles would be advisable. Just step way to the side -- there is plenty of room for the vehicle to pass you.

With that said, this bridge is one of the dwindling number of covered bridges left in NH. We have been members of the National Society for the Preservation of Covered Bridges since 1985. If you are interested in more information about covered bridges, the website is: http://www.coveredbridgesociety.org All of the covered bridges have an assigned number. This particular bridge number is 29-10-08, indicating 29 for the state, 10 for the county and 08 for this bridge. It is called the Meriden or Mill Bridge and it spans Bloods Brook. It has one span (unsupported distance aside from the supporting abutments on each end). It is 80 feet long and was built in 1880. Its construction style is Multiple Kingpost.

Congrats to SleepyPeepers for the F-T-F. They found it just a little over an hour after publishing AND in the dark!
