Geocache Description:

This cache is one of eight placed along Whipple Road, which runs from Route 116 to Route 115A in the Town of Jefferson.


Colonel Joseph Whipple (1738-1816), the father of Jefferson, came to the area in 1772. During the American Revolution he served as Customs Officer of the Port of Portsmouth. Given the rank of Colonel in 1784, he commanded the 25th Regiment of the New Hampshire Militia. He represented the Coös district of Grafton County in the state legislature from 1776 to 1783.
