Zur Uhr:
Die Weltzeituhr ist eine Uhrenanlage in Baueinheit mit einer symbolischen Weltdarstellung. Sie enthält auf ihrer metallenen Rotunde die Namen von 148 Städten. Die Technik der Uhr befindet sich zwei Meter unter dem Platz in einem rund 5 Meter × 5 Meter großen und zirka 1,90 Meter hohen Raum. Der das Planetensystem antreibende Elektromotor und das Getriebe stammen noch aus DDR-Zeiten. Ein umgebautes Trabantgetriebe erfüllt gemeinsam mit einem Kugellager der Firma Rothe Erde seit Inbetriebnahme die wichtigste Funktion, den Antrieb des Stundenringes.
Während der politischen Wende und genau zu den Feiern des 40. Jahrestages der DDR am 7. Oktober 1989 versammelten sich im Umfeld der Weltzeituhr viele oppositionelle Menschen und formierten von dort unter Rufen wie „Wir sind das Volk“ einen friedlichen Protestzug zum Palast der Republik und weiter zur Gethsemanekirche. Bereits während des Marsches und vor allem im Anschluss kam es zu massiver Gewalt von Polizei und Staatssicherheit, mit insgesamt 1200 Verhaftungen. 33 Tage später fiel die Berliner Mauer.
Seit ihrer Aufstellung 1969 ist die zehn Meter hohe Weltzeituhr ein beliebter Treffpunkt für Berliner und Touristen in der deutschen Hauptstadt. Seit Juli 2015 steht die Weltzeituhr unter Denkmalschutz. (Quelle: (wie so oft) Wikipedia)

L'horloge mondiale est un système d'horloge en unité avec une représentation symbolique du monde. Il contient les noms de 148 villes sur sa rotonde en métal. La technologie de l'horloge est située à deux mètres sous la place dans une pièce d'environ 5 mètres sur 5 mètres de large et d'environ 1,90 mètre de haut. Le moteur électrique entraînant le système planétaire et l'engrenage proviennent des temps de la RDA. Un engrenage converti Trabant se sont réunis avec une entreprise de roulements à billes Rothe Erde depuis le démarrage de la fonction principale est de conduire l'anneau heure.
Alors que les changements politiques et avec précision aux célébrations du 40e anniversaire de la République démocratique allemande le 7 Octobre 1989, beaucoup de gens de l'opposition se sont rassemblés dans le domaine de l'horloge mondiale et une courte pause de là avec des cris de « Nous sommes le peuple » une manifestation pacifique mars au Palais de la République et continuer à Gethsemanekirche. Déjà au cours de la marche et surtout après il est venu à la violence massive de la police et de la sécurité de l'Etat, avec un total de 1200 arrestations. 33 jours plus tard, le mur de Berlin est tombé.
