Reza a lenda que Tati e Pedro eram um casal de apaixonados, que lutava por um amor impossível.
Tati era uma jovem do povo, filha de um humilde pescador, e Pedro era de uma família nobre, como tal era impensável esta união. Mesmo assim, arriscavam as suas vidas para passarem momentos juntos, longe dos olhares que os pudessem denunciar. Para isso, Pedro contava com a ajuda de um fiel amigo, que o auxiliava para que os seus encontros fossem possíveis.
Para se encontrarem, todos os dias tinham de fazer uma longa caminhada e entrar pelos vales profundos de Machim até chegarem ao seu refúgio. De lá, podiam sentar-se e desfrutar da companhia um do outro e apreciar a beleza da sua terra.
Até que houve um dia que Pedro esperou pela sua amada sem que ela aparecesse, esperou até ao sol desaparecer, com o pressentimento de que algo tinha acontecido.
No dia seguinte, voltou ao mesmo lugar e nada da sua amada. Os dias foram passando e através do seu fiel amigo soube que ninguém a tinha visto. Mesmo assim, ao longo dos anos voltou ao refúgio todos os dias e lá ficava sentado, na esperança de que ela aparecesse.
Até que houve um dia que Pedro ficou muito doente e já sabendo que não conseguiria recuperar, pediu ao seu amigo que, quando morresse, arrancasse o seu coração e o deixasse numa caixa, onde tinha passado belos momentos com a sua amada Tati.
O seu fiel amigo deixou a caixa em frente ao banco, abaixo do tronco coberto por pedras.
Assim, se algum dia ela aparecesse e fosse à sua procura, saberia que o seu coração só a si pertencia!

Legend has it that Tati and Pedro were a couple of lovers, who fought for an impossible love.
Tati was a young woman of the people, daughter of a humble fisherman, and Pedro was of a noble family, as such was unthinkable this union. Even so, they risked their lives to spend moments together, far from the glances that could denounce them. For this, Pedro had the help of a faithful friend, who helped him to make his meetings possible.
To meet them every day they had to take a long walk and enter the deep valleys of Machim until they reached their refuge. From there, they could sit and enjoy each other's company and enjoy the beauty of their land.
Until one day Peter waited for his beloved without her appearing, waited until the sun disappeared, with the presentiment that something had happened.
The next day he returned to the same place and nothing of his beloved. The days went by and through her faithful friend she knew no one had seen her. Even so, over the years he returned to the refuge every day and sat there, hoping she would show up.
Until one day Peter became very sick and knowing that he would not be able to recover, he asked his friend that when he died he would rip his heart out and leave it in a box, where he had had a good time with his beloved Tati.
His faithful friend left the box in front of the bench, beneath the stony trunk.
So if she ever came and went looking for you, she would know that your heart alone belonged!
