The former cache with the same basic name is being reborn because the lumberjacks took the original caches's home and the cache away.
The East Dorset marble quarry had been established by Bill W.'s great grandfather and stayed in the family for three generations. Marble from these quarries provided stone for the New York Public Library Main Branch. Walk through the Village on the marble sidewalks.
The Battenkill or Battenkill River is a 59.4-mile-long river that originates in East Dorset and flows south and is a tributary of the Hudson River. As it flows through East Dorset, it picks up waters from Peru's Mad Tom and Little Mad Tom brooks.
Note: The cache is near the historic Post Office and the East Dorset Congregational Church and by the Vermont Railway System North/South railroad track. You should walk to the cache from the Post Office, using the Hint; however, if you do walk up to Route 7, please stay away from the road and stay to the tree side of the large parking area. Please be very careful of the traffic traveling North. It is not recommended to walk that way, especially with children.
PLEASE DO NOT DISTURB OR WALK INTO THE FLOWER GARDEN. THE CACHE IS NOT THERE.
Sit and enjoy the views. The cache is both kid-friendly and winter-friendly.
Please be sure to BYOP to sign the log, as there isn't one in the cache.
