Geocache Description:

This cache is located in the beautiful Mendon Town Forest and was hidden by a creative group of Cub Scouts. This forest is comprised of nearly 8 miles of multi-use trails. You will find hikers, mountain bikers and hunters all peacefully coexisting, but be sure to wear your Blaze Orange if you're out during hunting season for safety!

Mendon Town Forest is said to have been first settled by Woodland Taft (circa 1720) and the land was worked for generations of the Taft family. Today, while hiking through, you can find many remnants of their homes, outbuildings and more scattered throughout the town forest. The historic remnants of these early settlers are noted on the town forest map and identifying signs are in place at each location. The early stewards of the land also built miles of amazing stone walls that must have required dawn to dusk hard labor for many years to complete!
